Almost half (42%) of the population have never volunteered and nearly a quarter have ever even thought about it, according to a survey by the British Heart Foundation.
The BHF conducted the survey as part of a campaign to encourage more people across the country to volunteer.

Sky has shortlisted five charities from a total of 167 in its search for its next major charity partner.
The five charities - Campaign for Learning, Global Action Plan, I CAN, WWF and Zoological Society of London - were selected after they had come up with ideas for a short film designed to highlight their work.

RNLI Chief Executive Andrew Freemantle will be cycling from RNLI HQ in Poole (Dorset) to Rome to raise money for the RNLI.
Andrew plans to complete the 1,100 mile journey in under three weeks this September, giving up the majority of his annual holiday allowance for the benefit of the charity. Andrew, who is in his sixties, has already run the London Marathon in aid of the RNLI.

In the interview he describes the challenges he faces as Atlantic prepares to spend down its ‚€4 billion endowment over the next ten years and hints that Northern Ireland may be in line for more funding.

The NSPCC's Tim Hunter is the new chair of the board of the International Fundraising Congress (IFC) and he will succeed Judy Beard, Macmillan Cancer Support's director of fundraising and communications when her term ends after the IFC in October this year.

The Funding Advice Network (FAN), facilitated by the Northern Ireland Council for Voluntary Action, is seeking members. FAN is an informal membership body of individuals whose responsibility is to provide funding advice as a substantial part of their role in community and voluntary activity.
