Gotta catch ’em all for charity

Digital agency Engage has been quick off the mark to combine Pokémon Go with encouraging its staff to take exercise, and raising funds for charity.
The Leeds-based company is adding Pokémon Go to the inaugural Elympics which challenges staff to be active by incentivising exercise. Staff earn donations to four local charities over 12 months by logging their running, swimming, cycling, rowing, hiking, and now their Pokémon Go travels.
All activities are being tracked on the popular fitness app Strava, but given the novelty of Pokémon Go there is no function to track Pokémon Go activities yet. So Engage’s developers have chosen instead to rely on hatched Pokémon Go eggs to measure mileage, as well as adding bonuses for some of the rarer Pokémon caught.
Engage Director, Alex Willcocks, said:

“We wouldn’t be true to our trademark Attention To Digital if we hadn’t noticed the buzz surrounding the launch of Pokémon Go. So we quickly updated the site to cater for resident Pokémon Masters and allow donations for Pokémon caught.”

The Elympics has been underway since March and has already raised over £2,000 with staff having covered over 7,000 miles.
