Suffolk Pigs Gone Wild sculpture trail to raise funds for hospice

Melanie May | 14 June 2016 | News

More than 40 pigs will be on display in Suffolk later this month, in the Pigs Gone Wild sculpture trail.
The pigs are being decorated by artists and sponsored by local businesses before being auctioned off following the trail to raise funds for St Elizabeth Hospice. They will be placed across Ipswich town as well as along its Waterfront as part of an interactive trail that people will be able to follow, collecting points through a Pigs Gone Wild app as they tick them off for a chance to win a holiday donated by local company Woodfarm Barns.

The pigs will be on display for 10 weeks from 27th June to 2nd September, and will be joined by a number of junior pig sculptures designed by local schools and placed in litters across Ipswich.
Sculpture on the trail include the event mascot Tallyho Trotters, painted by Mik Richardson, and Ed Sheer-Ham pig, chosen by Suffolk County Council and designed and painted by Norfolk artist Martin J Wall as a tribute to the singer song-writer Ed Sheeran who was raised in Suffolk.

Pigs Gone Wild is set to be Suffolk’s biggest mass-participation art event so far, and hopes to raise £100,000 for St Elizabeth Hospice. To stage it, the hospice has teamed up with Wild in Art, and owner of Jimmy’s Farm, farmer and presenter Jimmy Doherty is the event patron.
Doherty said:

“The hospice supports more than 2,000 people and their families every year and many of us know someone who has been touched by hospice care. They rely on the generosity and support of the local community to help raise the millions of pounds it costs to run their services every year and Pigs Gone Wild is one of their fundraising initiatives to help generate these vital funds.”
