Donate4Mike has become the largest GoFundMe campaign ever in the UK, raising £430,000 in nine days, from nearly 22,000 individual donors.

Donate4Mike was created by Kate Brandon to raise funds to cover the associated costs of cancer treatment in the US for her husband. Mike Brandon is suffering from cancer for the second time, and has exhausted all of his treatment options in the UK. While a revolutionary treatment is available at the University of Pennsylvania in the US, the associated costs are £400,000.

GoFundMe has made a donation of £10,000 to the campaign.

Rob Solomon, CEO of GoFundMe, said:

“Kate’s GoFundMe campaign for her husband Mike is an incredible example of the power of the GoFundMe giving community. We hope he can get the treatment he needs as soon as possible.”

The biggest and fastest UK GoFundMe campaign prior to Donate4Mike was last year’s appeal to help Alan Barnes, which topped £300,000 in four days. The disabled Gateshead man was attacked outside his home in February last year, and felt too shocked to return. The appeal had aimed to raise £500 to help him find somewhere else to live, and received donations from as far afield as New Zealand.
