GiveaGift turns unwanted gift cards into donations

Melanie May | 16 December 2015 | News

GiveaGift, an online gift card donation platform that helps consumers exchange and donate unwanted gift cards, is launching in the UK.
The service has partnered with Give as you Live, and the Technology Trust to both launch it and help it expand over the next year.
Through GiveaGift, consumers with an unwanted gift card can give a donation from the card’s value to a charity, and then exchange the remaining balance of their unused gift card for a gift card for that value with a different brand, with the current range including Amazon, John Lewis, iTunes and Topshop.
Consumers input the value and details of their gift card on the GiveaGift site, as well as how much of it they wish to donate and to which participating charity. They then choose a new gift card for the remaining balance from the range of brands available.  Charities can also sign up online to participate in the scheme, with those involved currently including The Princes Trust, Breast Cancer Care, and Youth Music.
Greg Hallett, managing director at Give as you Live, said:

“GiveaGift is a simple concept that has the potential to really impact charity revenues. £1billion is wasted in unused gift cards each year so we do not hesitate to support GiveaGift in helping that waste become much needed donations to all kinds of causes.”
