JustTextGiving to power ITV's Text Santa campaign

Howard Lake | 17 November 2011 | News

Text Santa, ITV’s new charity appeal for Christmas, will use mobile donation platform JustTextGiving to raise awareness and money for nine UK charities that support the most vulnerable during the festive period.
The ITV campaign will encourage people to ‘Text Santa’ and donate £1, £5 or £10 by texting Santa1, Santa5 or Santa10 to 70070.
All messages sent are free on any mobile network and “every penny donated will go to the charities involved”. UK tax payers can also claim Gift Aid.
Vodafone UK’s stores and employees are also promoting the campaign.
Text Santa will be centred around two “entertainment spectaculars” on ITV1 featuring TV, music and show business acts. The first takes place in early December, with the finale taking place during the Christmas period. The shows will feature the charities and viewers will be encouraged to donate by text during the performances.
JustTextGiving, offered by JustGiving in partnership with Vodafone, launched in May 2011 and more than 14,000 charities have signed up to use the service. Over 10,000 individuals have also created their own personal text codes enabling them to fundraise for a charity.
The Text Santa appeal is working on behalf of a chosen group of five national charities and four hospital charities for sick children: Crisis, Carers UK, Samaritans, Help the Hospices, WRVS, Helping Hand, Yorkhill Children’s Foundation, Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity, and Noah’s Ark Appeal.
