12 November 2011 offers charities and their supporters across the UK a one-off chance to promote their charity or cause.
Britain In A Day is a project that aims “to create the definitive self-portrait of Britain today, filmed by you”, say its organisers. It forms part of the BBC’s Cultural Olympiad.
Sound familiar? It is. It was inspired by Life in a Day, which Wikipedia, described as “a crowdsourced documentary film comprising an arranged series of video clips selected from 80,000 clips submitted to the YouTube video sharing website, the clips showing respective occurrences from around the world on a single day, July 24, 2010”.
Britain In A Day focuses just on Britain of course. It is being led by film directors Ridley Scott and Morgan Matthews. They “invite you to capture the reality and intimacy of your day and to upload it” to YouTube.
The resulting film and online archive will be shown in cinemas and broadcast on BBC2 before the London Olympics.
A fundamental element of Britain today is the widespread work of charities, and all who help them make a difference. So, I think this film offers a fine opportunity to present and promote the work of your charity in a film that should get seen by very many people.
There’s no guarantee, of course, that your contribution will be included in the final edit. But I’d hope that the final film will showcase some of the inspiring and ordinary day-to-day work that all kinds of people do through charities large and small.
So, get ready to point your video camera at something that matters to you on 12 November.
