London, United Kingdom – October 2009 – London Advice Services Alliance (Lasa) today announces its event titled “Mind the Gap: How can the Third Sector Survive through Tough Times?”, to be held on Wednesday, 4th November. This is the second of a series of events to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the charity organisation.

Following the first event of the series – an ICT event – on 7th October, this second event aims to offer a discussion of the survival of the third sector through tough times. Keynote speakers will include:

• Neil Cleevely, Director of Policy and Communications, NAVCA
• Stephen Hawkins, CEO of Age Concern Hounslow
• Gaynor Humphreys, Director of London Funders

The panel discussion will be chaired by Liz Sewell, Chair of the Board at Lasa, and will focus on:

• What support does the sector need to get through the recession and beyond?
• How can we make the case for this?
• How can organisations that support the sector help it more effectively?

The event aims to bring together CEOs, directors and other decision makers from voluntary and community organisations to share and discuss one of the most urgent issues facing the third sector. It is also a rare opportunity for guests to network with their peers in an informal but informative environment.

Andy Gregg, Chief Executive of Lasa, is delighted to announce the event: “It has been a challenging time for all of us in the third sector. There hasn’t been a week when I haven’t heard or read about a third sector organisation’s budget being cut due to the recession.

As a charity who has provided support services to the advice sector for the past 25 years, we encourage meaningful debate about how the third sector can take a more collaborative approach during difficult times. We would like our anniversary to be an opportunity to facilitate discussions of the bigger picture which influence the third sector.”

The event will take place at City law firm, Mayer Brown on Bishopsgate, London, whose hospitality is greatly appreciated.
